Body Lovin'

I am extremely passionate about women’s self-image. I believe that one of the greatest forms of prejudice still remaining in our society is the negative and unrealistic standards we place on our bodies…especially women! I truly believe that each and every women is beautiful in her own way, regardless of size.

I’ve always been a petite girl. Although my driver’s licence states otherwise I’ve never quite made it past the 5’2 mark….5’1 and 3/4 baby!! This has presented lots of challenges when shopping considering the clothing designers think everyone is at least 5’8 with legs as long as stilts. But I’ve learned to embrace my lack of height. So what if I don’t fit societies standards?

I’ve noticed this in the plus size industry as well. Not all women are a size 2 or even a size 8. The average women is a 12-14. And based on my experience with styling 18 is the most common size I see walk through my door. Lets face it, women need to see THEMSELVES in the clothes they want to buy. I feel that full-figured models are doing that and I want to see more of it!!

I feel this is a more relistic representation of women....

....then this is-

I've made it no secrete that I am recovered from anorixia. At my sickest I dropped to a mere 89 pounds. I was so depressed and I was not in a good place at all. Now, 25 pounds later, I feel much healthier. And guess what? My hubby would like to see me put on at least 5 more pounds…if not more. Curves are hot ladies…ignor the stick thin images the media shoves down your throat!

So now it is your turn. What about your body has society and the media been telling you to “fix” and how can you learn to embrace it rather than change it?

I think the curvy gal is much more appealing then the supper skinny gal. I used to be very self-conscious of my curves. But now I am really proud of my hips and boobs! I wouldn't change them for the world.

I am what they consider plus....12-14 but in all honesty I feel pretty average when I sit down with all the moms at school. As you know, I use to be very skinny and sick because I made myself that way. You are very right, we must accept and embrace our bodies as they are.

Great post! I wish more people thought this way. I'm actually really happy with myself right now. It has taken me a while to feel that way again after all the fertility drugs and what they did to me. But, right now, I'm liking me. :)
